At the prestigious World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2025 in Davos, a landmark moment unfolded for India’s clean energy landscape. The Government of Maharashtra signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vardhaan Lithium (I) Pvt. Ltd., a pioneering company developing India’s first integrated lithium refinery and battery manufacturing plant in Nagpur.

A Catalyst for Clean Energy and Economic Growth

This strategic collaboration represents more than an investment; it’s a bold step toward sustainability, energy independence, and industrial transformation. As part of Maharashtra’s larger vision to become a trillion-dollar economy by 2030, this MoU solidifies its position as a hub for clean technology innovation.

Investment & Employment Impact

The MoU outlines an investment of ₹42,535 crore, earmarked for advanced electronics and lithium battery infrastructure in the state. This move is expected to generate over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs, fueling regional development and creating new opportunities in and around Nagpur.

Vardhaan Lithium’s Role in the EV Ecosystem

As the demand for electric vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy storage accelerates, Vardhaan Lithium is building the critical backbone for India’s EV revolution. With a planned annual refining capacity of 60,000 tonnes of lithium and a battery production target of 20 GWh, the company is setting the foundation for a self-reliant, future-ready energy ecosystem.

Government Backing at a Global Forum

This MoU is one among 54 agreements signed by the Maharashtra government at WEF 2025, collectively amounting to over ₹15.7 lakh crore in investments and promising nearly 16 lakh job opportunities. The deal with Vardhaan Lithium stands out as a key milestone in the electronics and clean energy segment, symbolizing both strategic foresight and environmental responsibility.

A Win-Win for Sustainability and Business

The partnership reflects a shared vision between the government and industry to advance India’s green goals, reduce reliance on imports, and create scalable, future-oriented infrastructure. It sends a strong message to global stakeholders: India is ready to lead in sustainable industrialization.
